  1. A Show of Hands encapsulates Rush's "new wave" period, a much maligned era in their evolution. I love this period, it's not hard to separate earlier Rush from this and appreciate what they were doing at this time, using different instrumentation, more synth and taking in /5(79).
  2. Like every era of Rush's career, they usually end things with a live album. The synth era was no different, with their third live release, 's A Show of Hands. First things first - the video version of this release is infinitely better, due to the fact that we get to see late 80's renditions of Rush classics like "In The Mood" and "Tom Sawyer".

At one time this show was considered to be released as a live album, but unfortunately those plans were scrapped. Audience recording.
  4. K ronomyth SHOW OFF. And thus with an audible chill closes the band’s coldest chapter. And thus with an audible chill closes the band’s coldest chapter. A Show of Hands is a live summation of their last four albums, a by-now obligatory gesture and arguably their weakest entry, whose pennance was paid by the poor sales of Presto.
  5. Like other Rush live albums, Hands also serves as a "greatest hits" collection for this particular era of the ‘80s. While "Closer to the Heart" is the one true throwback, "The Big Money," "Subdivisions," "Distant Early Warning," "Force Ten," and "Mission" represent the band's most striking '80s material, delivered with the exact precision.

  7. Tracks like 'Big Money', 'Subdivisions' & 'The Manhattan Project' etc can match any material from the band's early phase of prog rock. In addition, Alex Lifeson demonstrates that he was hardly twiddling his thumbs, at this time, as Geddy Lee graced the keyboards. This album epitomises the Rush desire to experiment & innovate/5().
